About me
After gaining a 2:1 in my first and second years of costume design at Nottingham Trent I have carried the skills I’ve learnt into third year and become more competent in my ability to design, make and put historical knowledge into my practice.I have been lucky enough to gain work experience at Theatre Royal in Nottingham where my job roles include, dressing and helping with quick changes. This has allowed me to get an insight on behind the scenes of a working environment within Costume and how dynamic the process of producing a show is. Over the last summer I was also able to secure myself a two week work placement with The Royal Opera House, I was lucky enough to be able to help toile and construct rehearsal garments during my time there.
Last year I have been able acquire skills in tailoring, corsetry, draping on the stand and Tu Tu construction. I found a real passion for ballet and the creation of Tu Tu’s and this is something that within my career I would like to pursue. For my graduate exhibition pieces I am constructing a theatre costume for Othello and a ballet costume for an abstract take on A Midsummer Night's Dream, both from my own designs. I am eager to learn more skills in a variety of role through out theatre, film and ballet and progress in my career as a costume maker.
Theatre professional:
I am currently a third year costume design and making student at Nottingham Trent University. Outside of my studies I have taken as many job opportunities as I possible to gain experience and to network within the costume industry.
For the last two years I have been a dresser at the Theatre Royal Nottingham, where I have worked on a variety of shows such as; Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty and Red Shoes, multiple Opera North productions, Mamma Mia and Jack and the Beanstalk the pantomime. I have a wide knowledge and understanding of how a wardrobe department is run throughout the course of a production. I am also able to maintain and repair costumes, and perform quick changes.
I have also gained experience as a wardrobe assistant on a short film. For this role I needed to help source/hire, maintain, return all costumes as well as being responsible for continuity on set.
I am looking to further build on my experience in the costume industry as I am enthusiastic and eager to learn.
