About me
Creativity is my passion. Whether drawing, textiles or performing arts, I thrive in an artistic environment: My main interest is in costume and make up, especially for performance. I love making costumes and clothing, and I understand how important it is to make it practical for wearing on stage.I have strong sewing skills and I have created many different costumes, in both a professional and personal setting. I appreciate the importance of drawing and designs for clothing.
I have recently graduated and have completed my first few professional contracts, please see me c.v. for further details.
I have always had an interest in the theatre because both of my parents have worked in the theatre, my father still works as a director, and my mother now teaches production. This meant I saw a lot of live theatre as I was growing up, and spent a lot of my time in theatres, meeting actors, designers, etc.
I also enjoy non-naturalistic pieces, such as “Hansel and Gretel” by Kneehigh. I also love ballet, contemporary dance and opera, and I would love to create costumes for these performances, as they are always so striking.
I am also interested in making costumes for TV shows and films, my favourite genre is Sci-fi, which always has amazing costumes, and I would love to be involved in creating these garments and accessories. I am also a cosplayer, in which I choose a fictional character and make and model costumes based on their design.
My costume making skills have expanded greatly through my education, starting with the costume pathway on the art foundation course at Arts University Bournemouth, I was able to develop them much further at Plymouth College of Art over the past three years. I have learnt how to draft patterns, and how to draft on the stand. I have further developed techniques I already knew and learnt many new ones. As well as making costumes, I have also performed maintenance and alterations to them, as well as working backstage, dressing and taking care of actors.
My work experience at Oldham Coliseum Theatre was very useful for letting me experience what it is like to work in the wardrobe department of a professional theatre company. I made a lot of costumes and accessories for the characters in a modern interpretation of Romeo and Juliet called “Star-crossed”. Since then I also was temporarily employed to supervise costumes on the film they produced called "The Diary".I also assisted during filming by dressing the actors and making sure they were ready when needed.
I also greatly benefited from my work experience at the Royal Opera House.
At Vivien Sheriff I was working on fashionable hats and headpieces for special occasions and weddings during my work experience. This was very useful because it showed me a completely different side to clothes making and production.
I am really excited by the prospect of full time work in the theatre, and I am very excited to meet new challenges and learn new skills.
Additional skills:
I am highly skilled in hands-on creative work, especially in work involving costume and textiles. I am able to translate a 2D design into a 3D realization. I also have practice in theatre design, along with other aspects of theatre, including prop making and set painting.
