About me
I’m Jasmine Orrey, a freelance Camera Trainee, currently working on a BBC Childrens drama called The Worst Witch. Before I made the jump into the wonderful world of Freelance I worked at a post production house called Boardwalk Studio. However, although I had an inspiring 2 years learning all aspects of production from pre-production to post production this cemented to me that my ambitions truly lie in the camera department. For me, there is no greater feeling than being on-set. The collaborative nature within the industry is unique—each department comes together to create a bigger picture and tell a greater story. In my opinion the opportunities for creativity are incredible and I relish the chance to be a part of this. I have always been fascinated with cinematography and the various roles within the camera department.I graduated in 2014 from Manchester School of Art, studying Filmmaking with a specialism in cinematography. Through trying a variety of different roles within the industry, I have gained a wealth
of experience across a broad range of skill sets, including; running, editing, animation, art-direction, pre- production and camera work. An understanding of these various disciplines has given me a well-rounded knowledge of the television and advertising industry. Editing, in particular, has helped me understand the need for efficiency in filming and the way certain shots complement each other in the cut. It has also helped me to understand the technical side of camera work.
Within the camera department the various roles offer opportunities to be creative, whilst being active. I have also learnt the need to be efficient, and professional, because there is little room for error in this department. I consider myself to be a driven and focussed individual with high aspirations. To date, this competitive nature has kept me striving to achieve, putting myself in challenging situations which I have thrived on. I understand the need to be disciplined with strong technical knowledge, in order to be efficient and successful. I’m always eager to learn more and immerse myself in whatever challenge is put before me, taking pride in every task I am given.
In summary, I am the person who will be up at 4am, first on set, coiling cables through a swamp, still with a smile on my face, because this is what I love to do!
