About me
I have always had an interest in movies and plays but was never sure what to do with it. Until I looked for a subject I wanted to study and I found a Theatre Technology course. Theatre and films fascinate me because they take you into a story into a different world much like a book would and as part of a production team I could be part of offering people this experience. Living in England has given me the opportunity to get to know another culture and to become fluent in the English language. Speaking two languages also helps me communicate with more people around the world. Having lived in a foreign country for a while now I would enjoy living in other countries and getting to know more different cultures and the way theatre works in those countries. Within the course I studied subjects I was interested in beforehand such as set design and prop making but I also found new things I enjoyed like lighting design and production management. I am keen on job roles where I can take on responsibilities and show my creativity. My course has not given me many chances to explore costume making and design but I would be happy to get the possibility to learn more about that. I have past experiences in making my own costumes previous to my college course.I am able to take on many different job roles but would also be able to specialise in one job if needed.
In this course we are given the opportunities to find out which job suits us best by trying each one in our college shows. We become stage or production managers, lighting and sound designers, set designers, stage carpenters and also work back stage during the shows. While we do not have budgets for our shows we do our best to give the directors exactly what they want and make it an experience for the audience by using our creativity and problem solving skills. We produce set and props with a minimal amount of time and money but every show is still something unique.
The theatre technology course, unlike most courses does not stick to the timetable and requires me to be flexible as we sometimes spent twelve hours in college on a show day or for the technical and dress rehearsal.
Even though our days sometimes seem very long and most people do not know the work that goes into a production back stage I really enjoyed working on our college shows and I see theatre productions in a different way now.
