About me
Marianna Szekely was born in 1980, Budapest, Hungary to a musical family. She studied violin for 14 years at St Istvan Kiraly Music Conservatory. While studying music she developed an interest in other forms of artistic expression. Initially concentrating on TV and radio, but later expanding into painting and film. In 2004 Marianna graduated at Eotvos Lorant Science University in Regional Media Management. During her studies she was working at local television and radio channels, also organised concerts for newly discovered Hungarian jazz bands. In 2005 she moved to Cyprus for four years to experience the Mediterranean lifestyle and independence. It was while living here that Marianna started to focus more on painting creating her first series: ‘Life Trues’. Her style is slightly comic at the same time surreal and largely symbolic.
Her first exhibition was in 2008. This was in Paphos, Cyprus Open Studios at Tekni Art, where she had been discovered by the director. His support influenced her into moving to London.
Marianna has lived here since 2009. She studied fine art and design at Central St Martins (Byam Shaw) University of The Arts London. She became interested in createing installations which she lit and filmed herself. During this time she made a motion picture using stop motion animation. This project inspired her interest in the process of creating atmosphere through the camera lens. By the time she finished her fine art foundation, she decided to focus on motion pictures. She has been studying production and set design for film at Wimbledon College of Art since 2011. She has worked as a production and set designer on short films in collaboration with the London College of Communication, Central St Martins, the National Film and Television School and the London Film Academy.
Marianna aims to work as a production and set designer in the film industry. She believes, the best way to understand and learn this profession is to work together with talented and creative people. Production design is an exciting job, working in this field would give her scope to create great moving images.
