Highlights
-
I am an experienced costume designer and I have just under three years of experience working in wardrobe departments across various theatre, film and TV productions. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Costume for Performance at London College of Fashion. Therefore, I believe, that my qualifications, relevant work experience and passion make me a great candidate.
As demonstrated through my studies and practical work experience, I have essential skills such as the understanding of how to do in-depth historical research and text analysis based on the script. I have a solid knowledge of pattern making and garment construction for both female and males. I am a self-efficient and a very organised individual with the ability to work to a tight deadline and budget. Furthermore, a strong ability to creatively design or source costumes that will realise a director’s vision. I have strong attention to detail, therefore while I am on set I always ensure and oversee the continuity of the costumes.
The following are what I did when I worked as the costume designer for my latest work: a short film “The Room”:
- Worked closely with the director and communicate efficiently about each character’s look - Purchased/ sourced and prepared the costumes for 5 characters through eBay, Amazon, vintage shops and high street brands
- Ensured that all costumes and required equipment were ready on set
- Was a standby on set: to oversee any wardrobe related problems and ensure continuities.
- Ensured the safe return of any hired goods
- Kept a record of the expense and made sure everything was purchased within the given budget
Other significant and recent experience was my work as the costume designer for the Young Actors Theatre Islington. Last month I worked on a production with over 25 cast members and my job involved designing, making, sourcing, delivering and maintaining costumes and props. My designs were realised through collaborative work with the director, set designer, and production team to create a cohesive aesthetic for each project we worked on. During the production, I was also responsible for repairing and altering the garments, as needed, and making sure each costume was in good condition after every shoot and show. The production was very popular and following on from this and previous work I have become a go-to member of the team when the Young Actors Theatre Islington is in need of a designer.
To conclude, I feel that my experience as a diverse candidate that has worked with a variety of people from different backgrounds and age groups makes be the ideal individual due to my passion and drive to succeed and deliver the best possible outcomes a budget and design will allow.
