About me
Over the last year I have spent my time gaining experience in all aspects of the theatre production industry. I began work experience at Eden Court Theatre where I have been able to expand my knowledge of a variety of disciplines and equipment. I have done fit-ups for the Scottish Opera where I soft patched their show on their ETC EOS ION lighting console, I also had the opportunity to learn from Steven Powell and create my own cues and have a chance to try programming. I also maintained contact with Stevie after he left and he sends me small homework lighting exercises into order to develop my knowledge further. Another opportunity I have had is working with the Scottish Ballet where I spent time shadowing various members of their team including their stage crew and stage management, in fact I was even allowed to perform one of the cues to open the tunnel to allow a dancer through and then close it again. It was a privilege to watch the ballet work they have extremely high standards and their use of light and set, is phenomenal. Another show I worked on was a small scale show called Lady Macbeth which was a contemporary dance show with a deaf cast member so there was sign language incorporated the whole way through the dance and their stage manager Katy explained to me that her cues are done through movement and visual cues as there is no music cues she had to take detailed notes of their dance movements in order to cue them. All of these experiences have taught me so much and I am now confidently rigging lights, moving large pieces of staging and flying. As well as my work experience I have also been involved in numerous events in the community such as Rock Challenge within a local school where I serve as production manager, props work for a musical theatre class as well as my Saturday job at a local theatre school. These experiences have prepared me to further my training and I think that an HNC in technical theatre is the best place for me to continue this learning.Over the course of this year I have received some professional work. Designing the props and set for a small scale Gaelic pantomime which went on a short tour around Scotland. I was also offered work at Eden Court for their pantomime season of Dick Whittington where I worked as part of their stage crew, moving large pieces of scenery, doing scene changes, creating a cue sheet and I also had the opportunity to learn from their ASM and help her with shout checks.
The Technical Theatre has a great reputation for preparing you for professional industry work. The stand-out facilities and teaching would allow me to develop and gain confidence and understanding in all technical areas. The demanding and intense nature of the course would prepare me for the fast-paced nature of the profession allowing me to go straight into the industry. The course interests me as I love the theatre and everything about it. I am extremely passionate about all elements of production and have found a real interest in stage management, I also have an interest in lighting design and production lighting.
I believe I am suitable for this course as I am an extremely passionate and hard-working individual who is incredibly committed and dedicate to a career and education in theatre. Im very willing to learn and enjoy learning about as much as I can. I also really enjoy team work and collaboration which I understand is crucial in the theatrical industry as well as being organised. My passion and enthusiasm shines through in everything I do and I go out of my way to learn and work as much as I can.
