About me
I am a 2020 graduate from London College of Fashion, with a First Class Honours in BA (Hons) Costume for Performance. During my degree I gathered an extensive array of skills and knowledge in design and construction, particularly enjoying making period-correct garments, including Victorian costumes and 18th Century menswear. I am passionate about storytelling and being involved in creative processes. Developing strong interpersonal skills and high levels of organisation during and since my degree, I am comfortable with independent work as well as collaborations. These aforementioned skills were particularly vital in ensuring daily progress during my employment with Polunin Ink, an international touring ballet company, where I co-managed a team under the role of Costume Supervisor & Wardrobe Manager.Whilst working in film as a costume maker, I was introduced to leathercraft and instantly found myself captivated by the material and the design possibilities. My curiosity resulted in my recent employment with Nichols London- a company steadily establishing themselves with their premium quality of luxury leather goods. As a Junior Craftsperson, I progressed from performing preparatory tasks to very quickly being entrusted to handle exotic leathers such as alligator, and hand-stitching bag handles using traditional leather techniques & tools. Each day in the studio was immensely enjoyable and I am pleased to now have a foundational knowledge of handling leathers and their different qualities.
My interest in sartorial design led me to undertake a three month internship with Montague Ede, a female-run tailors based in Mayfair, specialising in bespoke menswear clothing. Shadowing Antonia, a Savile Row trained cutter, my duties involved daily trips to Savile Row to exchange services with fellow craftspeople, fabric buying and the preparation of foundational materials and haberdashery required for each individual suit. Practical skills learnt included traditional hand- stitching of trimmings and fasteners as well as minor alterations, such as adjusting sleeve cuffs and trouser hems.
Having been born and raised in London by my Serbian parents, I find it important to keep in touch with my family's culture and traditions. This led me to pursue my professional interests this year in Belgrade resulting in my latest employment with Dragana Ognjenović, a highly established luxury womenswear brand. The expectations were high and the window of production was small, forcing me to increase speed of output and progress in a short period of time and through that I developed my skills and ability as a seamstress. The experience was very instructive and I now have a more expansive understanding of high-end fashion construction.
