Based in the heart of Manchester, the Capitol Theatre is the theatre for Manchester Metropolitan University. The theatre is the performance space for students on our acting courses within the Faculty of Art and Design.

The MMU School of Theatre is well known for training actors. The School receives more than 1,000 applications each year and has nurtured talents like Steve Coogan, Bernard Hill, Anthony Sher, David Threlfall and Richard Griffiths. The BA(Hons) Acting course is the only National Council for Drama Training accredited course in the North of England. Manchester is an ideal setting for our students. Famous for it's lively theatre and media environment, including 13 theatres and home to Granada and the BBC. Come and see some of our up and coming actors and future stars on the stage at one of our seasons plays.

History

The School of Theatre, home of the Capitol Theatre opened its doors in the 1960s. Originally the Drama department of the Northern School of Music we became part of the Manchester Metropolitan University in 1970 and were based in the Capitol Building in Didsbury. This was the former ABC Cinema. In 1998 we moved to the All Saints Campus on Oxford Road where we're currently based and which is now home to the Capitol Theatre.
