Channel Theatre Company was established in 1980 to serve the south east with professional theatre.

Since that time the company has specialised in theatre production of all kinds and at all levels, from the large scale Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham (Plotters of Cabbage Patch Corner) to small scale touring (the British touring premiere of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart). The company continues to work in well known theatre venues and regularly produces for Buxton Opera House.

Channel has been taking professional theatre into schools since 1983, touring Kent with support from Kent County Council and further afield with funding from government sources. Most recently the company has toured Bexley, Greenwich and Medway and visited Cornwall with a series of innovative community Theatre in Health Education projects. Channel has built a reputation for dealing with a range of delicate subjects including drug education and domestic violence, particularly for younger audiences.

The company specialises in projects and training initiatives taking place in non-theatre venues such as open air locations, community halls in rural areas and heritage sites. It has staged many spectacular participatory projects for local people, including the highly acclaimed Romeo and Juliet at Canterbury Cathedral.

Channel also brings its expertise to business organisations and local authorities, with projects and training initiatives undertaken for Pfizer, Eurotunnel, Kent Highways, Thanet District Council and Kent County Council's Registrar Service.

The organisation is a charitable trust, governed by a Board of Directors, and its many projects raise vital revenue which is ploughed back into the company to help support its running costs. An innovative programme of artistic work is pursued under the name Chalkfoot Theatre Arts and supported by Arts Council England (South East).
