Since then the Theatre has continued to develop and grow and has hosted a wide range of arts events including theatre, comedy, music, festivals and more. The theatre is run and kept going by the fantastic volunteers who come and do a wide range of jobs that are essential in the running of an increasingly busy theatre. The Theatre is starting to become a real community hub for the Town and highlights of this include the Theatre opening its doors for the Tour De Yorkshire which took place in May 2015 with locals being able to watch the event on big screens whilst enjoying the comfort of the newly renovated cafe bar area. East Riding Theatre is also delighted to be the hosts for the Beverley Literature Festival which will take place in October 2015.
ERT supports the creative industry and high class productions; the bench mark having been set by A Christmas Carol and, whilst volunteers run the venue, what goes on the stage is paid work. As Sue Kirkman (Theatre Manager) states, ‘the importance of producing our own work will earn ERT credibility as an artistic force to be reckoned with; regionally, nationally and internationally. We may be a small venue but our ambition is huge.’
