The Grassroots Shakespeare Company was founded in 2009 in Utah, USA as a practical exploration of renaissance rehearsal and performance practices. It encompases an ensemble of actors using a simplistic rehearsal style; compressed rehearsal period, minimal set, costume and props, and finally no director, no concept, or "fourth wall", delivering shows that are fast-paced, fun, and accessible. Following enormous local success and increased demand the company began to explore and expand further.
Grassroots Shakespeare London, having launched to great success in August 2011 with A Midsummer Nights Dream in Hyde Park and Victoria Embankment Gardens, now work collaboratively with the US company running a similar theatrical programme throughout the year in London.
