Hot Property was set up in 1995 by the critically acclaimed BAFTA winning team, Producer Janine Marmot and Writer/Director Simon Pummell, to produce feature films, cross media and convergent projects.

Films produced by Janine have won awards around the world and been selected for international Film Festivals including Berlin, Edinburgh, Toronto, Venice, Rotterdam and Telluride.

She has produced documentaries and drama for the cinema and television working with directors including Brothers Quay, Michael Whyte, Nichola Bruce, Chantal Akerman, Tom Shankland, Jim Gillespie, Marc Karlin and Christopher Petit, as well as producing the films of Simon Pummell. In 2006 she ran a workshop with Palme d’Or winning director Abbas Kiarostami in association with Channel Four and the London Film School.

The convergent project Bodysong, a feature film and web site for FilmFour and the Film Council won a BAFTA and a BIFA. It was nominated for a Tiger Award at Rotterdam International Film Festival. Her feature credits include:

The multi directed Made In Heaven for the rock band Queen and the BFI
She was Director of Film at Skillset from 2006-2009 where she was responsible for driving forward Skillset and the UKFC’s £50million skills strategy. She partnered with the Edinburgh International Film Festival and introduced Trailblazers to promote new British Talent and brokered a relationship with the Toronto Film Festival enabling talented BAME film makers to participate in the Toronto Talent Lab.

Janine has been a visiting tutor at Film Schools including the London Film School and the University of the Arts.

An adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Edible Woman with Sandra Cunningham and Francine Zuckerman and Telefilm, Canada. Current Projects
Shock Head Soul: a feature documentary film, gallery installation,
and website about Daniel Paul Schreber: author of the most famous
autobiography written by a psychotic patient. Project in
pre-production with funding from the UK’s Wellcome Trust Large Arts
Award. Writer/Director.

Slow Motion Explosion: One Funeral. One Woman. Two Brothers. Three
Lovers. Six Mourners. But only one question: How did Colin King Die?
Six Stories: but there’s only one truth. A puzzle film uses the
setting of Smithfield meat market, and London’s underworld to tell a
story of one family’s secrets. Screenplay for the UK Film Council &
MEDIA. Project casting. Writer/ attached as director.

YES: a 3D gaming film, set in an underworld that is a recognisable
contemporary terrain of illegal Internet gambling and pornography,
perhaps just one minute in the future: a world of consensual
hallucinations powered by the addictive drug YES. Based on the William
Gibson short Story Dogfight. Writer/ attached as director.

Current Teaching & Research
Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam University. Course Director of
Lens-Based Digital Media Masters Programme Harvard University Film
Study Centre Fellowship 2008/9: research funding to develop new
digital animation techniques.

Past Work (Selected)
2005/6: received a UK National Endowment for Science, Technology &
Art Dream Time Fellowship to research new media & cinema.

2002/4: wrote and directed Bodysong, a cross-media project combining
feature film & website, using found footage taken from across the last
100 years of cinema to depict an archetypal life story. The soundtrack
was composed by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. The project received
critical acclaim and won a BAFTA, a BIFA (British Independent Film
Award,) and an Ivor Novello nomination, among other awards.

1990-2000: created more than a dozen animated and SFX films for
Channel 4 Television, MTV idents, and promos for the rock band Queen,
winning numerous international awards, and festival career
retrospectives.
