A company who employ professional actors and musicians, and local talent, bringing shows to Funcjal Madeira.
The Madeira Amateur Dramatic Society (MADS) was established, and have been presenting quality shows since September 1993.
Our first stage preformance was the play " The importance of being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde, on the stage of the English Church library.
In 1994, we presented a comedy in one act " The Mayor of Torontal" by Gwyneth Jones, at the auditorium of the Portuguese Broardcasting Corporation. In the same year it preformed it's debut of the pantomime " Cinderella II", on the main stage of the Casino Cinema, with 40 actors taking part.
Our activities are not restricted to plays. MADS have also organised several "Actors Workshops", with several distinguished stage directors. Many MADS members have also traveled to the UK to take part in professional workshops. In return, we're lucky to have actors from the UK come and preform here.
MADS, realising the talent pool that they have , branched out into Musical Theatre. Past shows have won us many new friends and fans. Many People come from all across Europe to see the MADS musical every year, and we thank them from our hearts.... (you know who you are!)
We are thrilled to have received lovely reviews and praise for all our shows, including "Fiddler on the Roof2, "My Fair Lady", "Oklahoma", "Candide", "Gigi", "Sound of Music" and who would have thought that our little Island would see the worlds longest running musical, having been granted the rights, the first amateurs anywhere in the world, to Boublil and Schönbergs " LES MISÉRABLES"? The excitement was infectious. Everyone on the island, locals and visitors alike, are talking about MADS and this show.
