About me
I am primarily a theatrical milliner and costume breakdown artist with a cross over into craft and prop costume making, working in film, television and theatre. My working title can vary but is predominantley in the costume department. I have also worked painting sets and props, have re-upholstered furniture and made drapes and curtains for sets.
Additional information:
A textile background led to me being asked to work in costume breakdown. It has encompassed the use of a broad spectrum of techniques and materials, including metals, leather and plastics. Transforming raw materials, costumes and armour, to reflect a characters journey so that it is real to an audience, reflected in the look and feel of their clothing and accessories.
Creating colour palettes and textures that can not be bought in a shop.
Sometimes it is just washing clothing so it doesn't look freshly made, other times covering them heavily with blood and grime after distressing the fabrics.
My role is to practically create from the images and mood boards that the designer of a production gives to me.
Then to get on with it so those deadlines are efficiently met, and at the same time maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.
Taking actor and actresses measurements when required and attending fittings.
My interest in thorough research and visually being observant on a daily basis has aided me when interpreting a designer's ideas.
I'm also hot on good time keeping as some of the interns who've worked
with me will tell you! No one wants to be trying to get a cab at 2am to the middle of no-where because they missed the people carrier.
