About me
I have worked in television for over 20 years within the BBC and for most of the larger independent production companies and have successfully produced content for BBC 1, 2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, E4 and CBBC.I have an excellent track record both in production - as an executive producer, series producer and and a P/D - having gained a reputation as being reliable and ambitious, delivering exciting content on time and to budget, and also in development having lead development teams that have secured a numerous commissions.
I would be keen to be considered for a number of roles; Development Executive, Executive Producer, Series Producer, Development Producer, Producer, Edit Producer and location PSC Director.
Additional information:
I have been based in Glasgow for over 13 years, but have worked in TV for nearly 25 years in all editorial roles from a Runner to an Executive Producer.
I worked as an Executive Producer and Series Producer in BBC Scotland's Children's Department for 8 years and for the last 6 years have been working as a freelance Series Producer and Development Producer for numerous Independent Production companies: OMG! Productions Scotland, Raise the Roof, Firecracker Films, Firecrest and Lion TV.
I Series Produced and directed on 2 series of Bafta Award Winning CBBC Drama/gameshow 'Last Commanders' which was recorded remotely using Skype and Quicklink technology, so I have a lot of experience and knowledge about productions that will be made using remote technology.
I am a creative, problem solving, lateral thinker and can not only original fresh, new ideas, but due to my production experience in a variety of different genres, on productions filmed on location, in studios and also remotely, I am able to fully develop these ideas with workable running orders, to realistic budgets, so that they can confidently be made by the production teams.
I am known as an ‘ideas person’ and thrive on developing ideas and turning them into a reality. I have successfully secured numerous commissions for both in house BBC and also for Indies. Whilst heading up the Development Team for CBBC in BBC Scotland I secured numerous commissions many of which were for long running series. Since leaving the BBC I have developed ideas for Raise The Roof, OMG Scotland and Firecrest Films developing ideas for a variety of genres and broadcasters.
Over the last 6 years I have Series Produced a number of first time series for Channel 4 Daytime, Primetime Features, More 4, BBC Scotland, BBC 3 and CBBC. I worked closely with the Commissioners and Executive Producers, developing the formats, tone, set and running orders and producing the presenters, production team, schedules and budgets of each of these series.
I regard myself as a clear and concise ‘middle person’ who is able to communicate what is at the heart of an idea and am good at understanding different commissioners wants and needs, to be able to and translate them to a development or a production team, which is imperative to the success of both development or a new series.
I have a strong ability to cut through, knowing what is and isn’t relevant to a story and the best way to achieve it on time and budget. I have strong leadership qualities and have a lot of experience managing teams of varying sizes and abilities. I enjoy nurturing and working closely with a production team.
I love story telling and am good at keeping scripts to the point, during pre production, scripting and post production. My experience as a P/D on many prime time Fact/Ents series and obs docs (EG - 'Wife Swap', 'It's Me Or The Dog', 'How Not To Decorate') gave me a good grounding in scripting and also much experience managing strong personalities, problem solving and dealing with difficult situations quickly and as an Executive Producer I built on those skills.
I am confident managing a team, I have exacting standards for my production team and myself, but still allow room for creative interpretation and encourage others around me to think differently, to approach opportunities and challenges laterally and consider unusual genre and format mixes.
I have worked as an Executive Producer, a Series Producer and also a Development Producer and Head of Development and I am happy switching between all these roles. I love Series Producing and being involved in the day to day running of a productions and thrive on problem solving and team management. I also love leading a team and taking responsibility, when Executive Producing. Having consistently delivered quality output which meets the brief, I have built up strong relationships with a number of commissioners and controllers across a variety of genres.
As an Executive Producer in the Children’s Department for BBC Scotland, I acquired a strong knowledge of BBC Editorial Guidelines, BBC Strategies and Health and Safety, data protection and child protection guidelines and child licensing and can confidently ensure that content complies fully with the OFCOM and BBC’s editorial guidelines and standards.
I believe that my strong production and development skills would make me a good addition to any production company and I would be keen to be considered for a number of roles; Series Producer, Executive Producer, Development Executive, Development Producer, Producer, P/D and Edit Producer.
