About me
In the 21st century, designers are considered more important than ever, especially given that audiences are more visual reactors, due to new technology and visual stimuli used in theatres. Growing up in Dubai allowed me to witness the fast growing world of technology, where the exploration of innovative techniques are used in concerts, theatres and events. The increased use of technology in the production of theatre is giving audiences a different and more inclusive experience that could not be delivered by actors alone. Introduced to the exciting world of lighting, sound and backstage theatre during my first college production, it is no longer for me just about the actor on stage, but the technical elements that complement the action and visually stimulate both the audience and act as a catalyst to the plot. I joined the college technical team and began to learn the different systems, both with the team and independently, including Qlab, VPT7 and Logic ProX. After 2 years of specialising in live sound I now understand the importance of sound to create mood and atmosphere in the theatre. Once I was comfortable with sound I then challenged myself with learning the techniques and equipment involved in the lighting cue sheet, understanding the rigging, safety, lights and effects used to enhance the performance. When using the smaller theatre, the lighting desk is an old analogue desk, however I have been able to adapt and develop a system to use it effectively. I have been the Community and College Technical Director for two years, managing, producing and training a team to run the technical elements of various sports events, assemblies, productions and concerts. This role has been challenging, having to work with varied quality of equipment, dealing with the lights blacking out mid performance and the sound desk failing minutes before a play was due to start. I took the initiative to use the house lights and follow spots so that the show could continue, and when the sound desk failed I resolved the issue testing power connections, wires and fuses. This role, however has been extremely rewarding, allowing me to excel in management, teamwork, communication and organisational skills. A level Theatre Studies was a new and demanding experience, taking me out of my comfort zone, but allowing me to improve my confidence whilst pursing a more creative aspect of education.Additional skills:
