A couple break up

Dave (my character) is out for the night with his girlfriend Jane. He is a very average sort of bloke, spending his time in and out of jobs, in and out of pubs, whereas Jane is much more ambitious than him and has an office job. They find a £20 note on the floor and try to find a pub to spend it in. Dave's feelings of inferiority prevent him from going into the upper-class pubs they come across, until Jane becomes frustrated and leaves him. Dave's bad night is complete when he finds that the £20 is gone as well.
