A chance encounter offers a down-at-heal actress an unexpected opportunity to audition for a small part in a film. In her shabby room she meticulously prepares herself for her big chance, ignoring the shouts of her angry landlady and the ticking clock as she imagines her glittering future. But her obsession with creating the perfect movie-star image leads her to miss out on her big opportunity and the part goes to another girl.
