Adonis of Denver

2013, 25 minutes

Royce, a street kid from Denver, must come to terms with an absent father in order to save himself from self-destruction.

Inspired by the real-life muse of the 1950's Beat Generation, Neal Cassady, 'Adonis of Denver' follows the street kid Royce as he wanders through modern-day Denver. We see that Royce is a philosopher and nothing short of a genius. We also see that he is his greatest enemy. Royce has the power to connect people, but his own life is slowly slipping away from him. Royce is searching for his father, who like Royce, is homeless. Over the course of his journey along streets, through back alleys, and inside nightclubs, Royce encounters individuals who try to help him. There's Marty, another homeless man and close friend of Royce’s dad, Maya, a beautiful girl on her own quest for self-realization, and Hal, a Denverite visiting from New York City. When the opportunity for Royce to achieve something greater arrives, Royce cannot find it in himself to leave home. He has to realize that only he can save himself and must take action in order to save himself from self-destruction. The story of Royce is the story of the hopelessness when stuck in neutral, and the exuberance of finally finding the open road.
