All That Matters" explores the emotional travails of Kayla, a young African-American woman whose inability to deal with her past causes a strain in her romantic relationships. An unexpected break-up with her longtime boyfriend reignites in Kayla feelings of abandonment and helplessness, feelings rooted in a tumultuous childhood. When she decides to resume dating again, Kayla's young brother Kevin confronts her with a revelation: never at any point in her adult life has she dated within her race. In her attempts to prove Kevin wrong, Kayla inadvertently comes to accept the tragic events of her past and understand how they have shaped her attitudes in the present.
