Deserted

2010, 12 minutes

A young postwoman on the home front faces an inner conflict during the opening years of the Great War.

In the winter of 1917 in a small village in the English countryside, life continues as the rest of Europe is immersed in a bloody, mechanized war. Whilst her husband is away fighting at Ypres, May - a tender, fragile young woman - has taken a position at the village post office to relieve the demand for jobs on the home front. The film is an exploration of how the brutality of the First World War affected Britain at a personal level for one woman, but also reflects the wider repercussions of this cataclysmic period in European history.
