Freedom

2014, 5 minutes

A film about two people who connect through each one's rite of passage.

William lives alone and has been grieving for the loss of his young daughter. He has kept her room like a shrine for some time, but has now decided it is time to move on. He has engaged a painter to decorate the room but, on checking that the work is being done properly, he discovers the young painter apparently dancing. Something magical has happened and William soon starts to connect with what the painter is feeling. For a few moments the room is bathed in new light and music and the two are transformed into a dream like sequence where they both involuntarily perform a dance, William following the painter. The moment stops and William leaves, feeling bemused but calmer in himself. Oliver, the painter, has experienced his own rite of passage, too, and sets to work with new found enthusiasm.
