A college lecturer (John) has recurring episodes of encounters with his dead wife (previously killed in a motor accident) and appeals to his Jesuit friend and colleague (Father Tom) to rationalise his experiences. At the end of the story we discover that it is actually he who is in a coma on a life support machine and his experiences are all in his mind.
