Inside out

Inside out

2012, 10 minutes

OUT is a successful business woman. She’s used to take responsibilities and to work under pressure. She’s the one everybody looks at for guidance and leadership. Not very many people though, know that Out has a secret that’s eating her alive. She suffers with panic attacks, but she can’t talk about it, it’s something unacceptable for her, something to be ashamed of. They trigger off unexpectedly and violently, leaving her incapable of doing anything. One normal day, going to an important meeting, OUT experiences an attack in the middle of the street. But this day something happens: INSIDE, her soul, appears like she’s peeling off OUT. INSIDE doesn’t talk, she dances, because the metaphor of her movements is the strongest way to portrait what goes on deep down during a panic attack. She’s always one step ahead of OUT, she’s marking the path. OUT finally becomes aware that the only way to escape her condition is to stop fighting it and to accept it. She starts franticly to look for INSIDE around the streets, she knows where to go, like she’s guided by a superior strength. And eventually she finds her, on a roof curled in a fetal position. But now OUT knows what to do: she takes INSIDE in her arms to cradle and re-embrace that obscure and vulnerable part of herself.
