The distant future. Communicative technology has become illegal due to public and governmental mistrust. Our story surrounds Lola, early-twenties, and an entry-level receptionist at a sleekly modern Graphic Design House. She spends her days in front of a hulking switchboard, connecting call after monotonous call. She is ambitious, yet unsatisfied. A lonely London dweller stuck in a state of impermanence. She appears to loose sight of the long-term over the course of the narrative, knowing what she is doing will benefit her, but is still discontent. Through the act of connecting his calls she begins a purely platonic friendship with an older man who helps her with this deep feeling she has of indifference, of not belonging. The story culminates when Lola finally accepts her co-worker’s invitation for after work drinks – she spots someone who she believes could be the man she’s talking to on the phone, deciding to follow him.
