Sartorial Elegance is the story of two young lovers (Donna and Mary Jane) standing up to 1950s society. Unable to dress how they want, act how they want, or love who they want, they live out their secret lives in a bombsite hideout in East London, occasionally rejoining the world to stick it to the man. We join them there, outraged that their contributions to a riot were cut from the evening news- only to find this works to their advantage when Charlie, leader of the Teddy Boys, comes to them with a proposition. He has become notorious following the riot, banned from every tailor south of the river but in need of a fix-up, and the girls take this opportunity to get even with the men and make a quick shilling in the process. Because swallowing your pride my friends, is the cost of sartorial elegance.
