Feeling isolated and alone he befriends a young girl, Scarlett, 11, who has her own emotional history having lived in foster care most of her life. Scarlett isn't afraid to say what she thinks and doesn't care who she offends. She confides in Blake, and he offers to help her find her mother who left Scarlett with her nan when she was 17. Scarlett lives with her nan until she was 7 when she became ill and later passed away. At that point, Scarlett is put in foster care.
