Tala

2018, 9 minutes

A surrealist, political comedy about cultural fetishisation.

Tala, a socially-awkward British girl of Arabic heritage, is at a gallery event. She wraps a scarf around her head in order to shield herself from the rain. Suddenly, she accidentally becomes the toast of the party when the artsy crowd there think she's a Muslim. She is forced to decide whether she'd rather be heard and dismissed or praised and elevated, but as an unheard and voiceless cultural object.
