The Folly

2016, 7 minutes

A vengeful girlfriend enlists a friend’s help in scaring her cheating boyfriend in an abandoned folly, but her plan backfires when she is double-crossed.

A young couple who are on their way home from a bad date pull over to the side of the road after the woman tells her man to stop the car. She explains that there is an old abandoned folly near, and that she wants her boyfriend to go and explore it with her in order to redeem the night. After an initial refusal, the man is eventually persuaded by the suggestion of a sexual benefit, and they set out to find the tower. Making their way through the darkness, they find the derelict building and venture inside to see what it beholds. They soon begin to fool around, but when distant noises remind them they are alone and vulnerable, the woman convinces her boyfriend to go off and investigate. He reluctantly does so, but when he doesn’t return, the woman is left all alone and surrounded by silence. When a figure does finally emerge from the bushes, it is not her partner, but a third character covered in blood. She should be scared, but we come to realise that she knows this person and has orchestrated the events of the night in a bid to avenge her boyfriend’s apparent infidelity; she had discovered he was cheating and wanted to make him suffer. However, she only wanted to scare him, and the emergence of her friend covered in blood sparks fear and panic as she begins to retreat from his slow advances. Whilst backing away, she suddenly stops with a sharp breath, and turns to see a knife sticking out of her back She slowly glances up, and locks eyes with her boyfriend, who firmly grips the handle and removes the blade from her body. She collapses to the ground, and the two men romantically embrace, revealing their secret relationship and ulterior motives.
