The Runner

2016, 20 minutes

The Runner, is an emotive, gritty and inspiring story of two people from very different worlds who cross paths at a critical time in their lives.

The Runner, is a short film about an athlete living in Hackney that has a chance encounter with a a Syrian refugee boy who has just arrived alone in London. She helps him by encouraging him to train at her track. He is a gifted runner, but faces many personal and political challenges. The film promotes equality, diversity and demonstrates how important sport is both mentally and physically. Chris Zah, voted European track and field coach 2013, who trains Olympic hopefuls, Perry Shakes Drayton(sponsored by Nike), Richard Strachan (sponsored by Adidas), Richard Morrissey and Andrew Steele, will be featuring in the film alongside his Mile End Camp Athletics club as themselves. Hackney band Rudimental are donating their music to the project and we are raising awareness for the Refugee Council's youth work. We are launching a kickstarter campaign in the next few weeks to raise money for the shoot and are planning to shoot in the first Mid May/Early June.
