Agency hell

Sian Altman
Actor

In a recent commercial casting the casting director told me my agent hadn't even suggested me for the job and he rarely goes through them anyway because they make no effort to tailor their suggestions and just put everyone forward for everything regardless of whether they fit the brief.

So as you can imagine I'm looking for new representation.

My Spotlight is currently set up so I can apply for work myself as well as my agent and I'd hate to lose that as it gives me a bit more control and means I can tailor my applications better but obviously I'm not getting access to as many jobs as agencies are. Can anyone suggest any agents that they've had some success with (particularly those who have access to decent film and TV roles which I can't access myself)?

I was considering a co op agency just so I can be involved in pushing for work myself a bit more but does anyone know any good co ops that have access to the sort of work I'm looking for or is that just kept back for the 'big' agencies?

Apologies for the rambling - ten years of experience as a professional actor now with a wide variety of credits but this year seems to have been really quiet for acting work. Done plenty of research on agencies but would love some first hand reviews since most people I know are really fed up with their agents and not booking anything through them.

Any advice on how to up my visibility and start booking more work would be massively appreciated!

I can’t imagine that there would be any reputable agent out there who would let there client have control over their Spotlight.

As for agent advice, I don’t think this site is the best place to look for it. There’s a huge mix of this site, What one actor calls work another wouldn’t dream of doing. I think it’s best to focus on getting one of the “top 20” agencies as these people’s clients are the ones who work at a high standard consistently.

As for advice I would remove your University credits as well as the am-dram credit.

You have worked what seems like some great adverts make sure these stand out by removing the other credits that don’t add anything to your c.v a quick google of a few of the companies you’ve worked for brings up no search results.

Your showreel is good but perhaps a little long. I had a quick watch and there is defiantly some time to be saved on the clips.

Best of luck with everything.
