Overdone auditrion songs

HI fluffies,

You guys ahve all heard my demos, but can you suggest GOOD repertoire I ahve not thought og to me, as a tenor voice?

Also, which audition songs are so overdone they are the kiss of death... or nausea... this will be more opinion but interesting to know...

Sorry no helpful advice to offer but I love Matt's story about "Let's call the whole thing off" - that is classic!

Lee, there are many fabulous solo songs by Sondheim that make great audition songs when the pianist is good enough.

What I do, is take a back-up song in case. If the pianist knows the Sondheim song I want to sing then I go for it and it never fails to please the panel, as these are so great and rarely performed.
If the pianist doesn't know the song very well, I sing the back-up song. I think we've all experienced a pianist who can't play our song and I don't need to explain what a disaster it can be!

Blake, to go back to your question, there are some fabulous songs by Scott Alan that you could sing. When I bring these to auditions no one knows them yet and they want to know what it is because it's great writing.
He's a new American song writer off Broadway. All the male songs are for tenors. PM me and I'll give you more details.

Have you thought about looking at some Brecht/Weil stuff? There are loads of great modern translations and I don't think they're doone that much. They are great for showing you can act through a song.

hI JESSICA,

someone rebumped this thread but i am looking at Weill and Brecht as I think its fab. Thanks to al of you who gave me new composers- I will give them a look. Something new means you are not judged by three hundred other people's performance who did it on the west end. :)

a great musical theatre friend of mine had a great trick;- look at shows in U.S. or here that had a short run , especially iof they were new shows. most of them will have one or two good songs even if the show isn't brilliant ...

hence leading to good repertoire and onknown songs
