RADA audition

Does anyone know if you can play a non human part for RADA audition? Such as Puck or the Fairy from Midsummer?

Thanks!

I would strongly recommend picking something more naturalistic. Espesh for Rada. Only my opinion though.

From what I've heard most drama schools only want you to audition with a piece which is suitable for your age and casting ability. Why audition for a school with a piece you cannot relate to (ie. Fairy... an older character etc) when you could blow them away with a character that you would actually be cast as in the real acting industry and connect to beautifully also. My acting teacher always told me to keep it simple... Kalee pick something that shows you at your best, that is simple, that you yourself can relate to and most importantly that you enjoy! Your acting will shine through then :) and good luck! Xx

Hi Kalee,

From what I've heard from teachers whilst at drama school, they advise against playing a character that isn't a human being - For the sake of auditions be it for drama schools or jobs. Like Emily says they want to see something that you could realistically be cast as (perhaps even in their showcases, after all they are trying to create an ensemble). So generally it is advised against playing an animal/fairy etc, or even a woman much older than yourself (eg. Cleopatra). For the sake of drama school auditions, try to find something similar to your own age and cast type.

Good luck!

You go for it - if its a piece that shows you off, and you feel comfortble and enjoy performing it, that will come across, and show you off in the best way.

Good Luck

From my experience helping out during drama school auditions when I was studying there I would advise against doing speeches like this. You want to pick something that is contrasting to your modern monologue, but is also realistic as in your casting. Or something that you feel shows a side of you that you aren't showing in your modern speech. Essentially you have about 3 minutes to show what you have to offer, so I would pick something a little more human and a little more you.
If you want any other advice, please feel free to PM me.
