Self tape Auditioning

Sonia Leech
Actor, Dancer

All,

It seems the way forward for a lot of casting directors is to self tape an audition to submit. I've done a couple now, but must admit I struggled to begin with as although fairly tech save had not ever faced using self taping/ editing/ etc.

I've now found software which I've downloaded to use my laptop rather than my phone.

What sort of software is everyone else using? How are you finding it?

Happy to share :)

Exactly Michael, we are the Book not the Kindle. I also go back to an earlier post Talent, for performing not filming?

I don't think anyone disagrees with you here, Brian, Michael, Charles, but Sonia's original post was simply asking for a better 'how' rather than 'why' or 'what if'. When the breakdown says 'self-tape' audition then we don't have the benefit of doing it live, whether we prefer it or not. And when it says 'filmed on a mobile is ok' there are lots of 'how' questions. It doesn't take Oscar-winning filmography, just film it, maybe crop a bit here and there, perhaps stick an ident at the front and send it via a laptop.

Correct me if I'm wrong Sonia, but that's how I read it. Perhaps it's my fault for taking it in a slightly different direction, in which case, my apologies. Just trying to help. Some folk don't even have a Smartphone!

Sorry, John this was the first time I have ever felt I wanted to use any kind of forum. I was just sharing an opinion. I'll keep my comments to myself in future. I shan't be doing it again.

Merry Christmas.

Kind regards,

Michael

..Your right John; The original post by Sonia was a request for any help or tips on self taping. We (Michael,Brian & myself) have opened up the discussion for lively debate on the subject!

Indeed. Michael - please don't feel that way. You are entitled to your opinion - and a valid one it is. I just felt I ought to steer it back to the OP. Threads are notorious for going off track - and for creating 'lively' debate (which can get out of hand).

No offence intended. For what it's worth, I agree completely.
