If you get to a school in the morning and you're not offered a hot drink within ten minutes of arrival glare at them profusely until their ears melt off. Usually you get shown to the staffroom.
Don't use the kids toilets (unless you want to look like a defecating Gulliver).

Yup. Hitchikers indeed.
The awnser to life is irrelevant (42) until you've worked out what the question actually means. Or something. Been a long while since I saw the series.
Failing that you can always half inch a towel from a Travelodge.

Make sure you can afford a gym membership that covers a branch of gym in every town you visit. Its every importantnto have your own space and time AWAY frm everyone.

Do NOT get involved in romantic entanglements with cast members. It fractures the dynamics and if you break up ( which inevitably happens) it creates unneccesary stress for the others who have to cope with it.

Communicate all issues IMMEDIATELY so there is no build up of resentments, and remember you are not being paid to like each other, but to work together. Getting on professionally is part of the job.

If you have a partner back home, do NOT talk on the phone for hours in the tour bus.. its annoying and alienating for everyone else to her you cooing to your sweetheart.

Gavin,

When I used to tour...I was always told to put the least used items of clothing at the bottom of the suitcase...and the most needed stuff at the top....therefore for a young man like you...sock, underpants, shaving kit and winter vests at the bottom...crisps, chocolate, sweets, pop and ciggys at the top...right at hand...hehe

All common sense when you think about it...!!!

Regards
Steve

All touring sxperiences are different. My first panto tour ended up fitting me with two of the loveliest people you would hope to meet! ( Lucy and ben, miss you both :). ) and as for my Italian tour I have found Friend who is like family to me the criddy and dear Jocelyn. Even though times can be hard you need to bear in mind he pressures you and your fellow actors are unde. Graham is a fabulous and talented actor but after four months we both irritated the shite our of each other. . But i am sure that none of us wiuld change our tine together and we are all the wiser for it x at the end of the day touring is hard. .. Just take a lot of books and an open mind x x

I don't know if this has been said because i haven't read all the posts. if it has then ignore me.

I have always found touring to be very much down to who your with. if you get on well with your fellow actors then you'll enjoy it, however if you don't it'll be a loooooong and painfull tour. this is often the case in any job but if the tour is one where you live with you fellow actors and spend 24/7 with them, then whether or not you get on with them will make a huge difference and will overshadow the quality of the job! thats my experience! hopefully your's will be great!

If it's a long tour think long and soft (well pointless trying to think with the other) about who you get romantically (read sexually) involved with... eating each others face off in the bus and the messy break up and awkward silences will make the rest of the cast want to kill you.

My advice is just try to get along with your cast members and not be cause of any friction because it can make the experience not all that enjoyable. I did a TIE once and found the experience like doing big brother but without being locked in house as you are virtually living and working with cast mates 24/7. Also make sure you take suitable medicines and vitamins tablets to prevent you from getting ill.

Amused by the various people saying they're too old to tour now - I didn't even start touring until I was 47 - best thing I ever did! :)
