weight & size

As we are all aware there is always a great amount of pressure on actresses and actors in hollywood to have a certain body shape. . basically you have to be a british size 8-10 at the most for the ladies and the men have to be muscular with no beer bellies...
Although we are not in hollywood yet, does anyone feel the pressure even at our levels in the business?
I know that people will always need actors of different shapes and sizes but do any ladies or guys feel that you would get more castings if you were a certain shape & size?

just interested to see.. been having a bit of a read up on this subject.

:)

I'll swap you a mini bite for a mini flapjack. I passed the flapjacks up in favour of the solid choclate hit of the mini bites and now I'm regretting it.

Buying a whole box of mini anythings is never a good idea. Yes, on the surface it seems that you can dip in for the occasional fix without ever consuming a whole bar (oh, the sin!) but in reality... there are only three left. They were just there. WHAT?!

I feel the pressure, I am a size 10 and 58kg but because my playing age is 14-20 I feel that I have to be skinny to play thoose parts as most teenagers that age are a bit slimmer then me and as I have to compete with actors that are that age. But if I loose any more wight and get to 54kg I just look really ill and frankly it's horrible!

I also once changed my figure thing on my profile from slim to athletic as I do have a lot of muscle on me and the amount of auditions I got plummeted!

I hear you guys!
I have swapped beer for whiskey,Junk food is a very infrequent treat, red meat has gone, and I sweat in the gym four times a week.
As a result I have lost three stone in about two years, simply because I believe its a necessary evil in this 'business'to be leaner.I also believe it has made me a more marketable actor with an 'edgier'look.
The truth is that in terms of ability I am no better than the sixteen stone version of me was, but I have definitely
found my work opportunities increase.Sad but true.

This is a very hot topic with me right now - I had a particularly horrifying experience with an agent who I had an imformal meeting with recently, who said my arms were too fat, my belly was too fat, my bum could do with toning and I needed a decent haircut. Its enough to turn anyone anorexic - Im only a size 12, but now Im obsessed about everyhting I eat!!!!

Oh my god, that's horrendous! You poor thing!

I'm all for agents telling us what we could do to get more work but a little tact wouldn't go amiss! Blimey.

I think we all know what we need to do in order to make ourselves look a bit better and therefore be more employable but when doing that means you're having no fun, or worse still depressed and obsessing about the situation, it's just not worth it.

I've got lots of work as a size 12 - don't worry about it at all. If you can tone up a little and still be happy then do it, but otherwise just stay how you are. There are plenty of careers out there that pay better than acting and while stage/screen might be the dream but feeling demeaned shouldn't be part of it.

I am now on quite a strict diet.. its as much for myself as it is for my profession.. having put on a a bit of christmas weight (darn those chritsmas drinks!!) and I will be filming at the end of this month I am feeling the pressure to drop some weight.. I want to be able to use the footage. Once before I had footage from a film which I feel I cannot use as I had put on some weight and so it isn;t a fair representation of me .. I know it shouldnt matter and I am sure there is an element of vanity there...

I am sticking to it but I have never wanted a chinese take away more in my life!!

The trick, I think is to find a friend who is also dieting (or someone with a big appetite), then dine with them.

When I'm dieting I find that if I cut things out completely I end up craving them so my fella and I will get a takeaway and I'll share some of his food. I get a teeny portion of something yummy (crispy duck pancakes rock my world, FYI) but don't have the opportunity to completely pig out. Cutting down on booze really helps too but god, I really don't have enough willpower to cut it out completely.

I was at an audition this weekend with a lovely chap who'd been on a strict 'no fun' diet since January the 1st - no meat, no wheat, no dairy, no booze, no caffeine, no smoking... yuck! He said he fell off the wagon during a trip to the theatre - had champagne and then two double espressos before he went in to watch the show - and was high as a kite! Couldn't remember a thing about the show!

A short detox makes one a cheap date, it seems! I might try it.

I'm so glad this has been brought up. I spent nearly a year on another casting site and I reckon 90% (and that's not an exaggeration) of the castings for women under 30 were for models, even though they were for acting roles. It seems far worse if you go to commercials where half the time is seems necessary that even single mums on benefits are a size 8 with gym toned bodies and perfect hair etc.

I know that image is important in this industry, but I can't believe it does any good to the standard of productions when good people are passed over just because they're a 12 instead of a 10. And it certainly doesn't do any good to the general concept of what it means to be attractive.
