Acting schools - Midlands

Hi all,

I wanted to get a bit of advice, a friend of mine attended Manchester School of acting and has gone on to have a career in TV dramas. She attended MSC because they offered courses that were tailored to acting for tv rather than theatre. Does anyone know if anywhere in the Midlands that offer something similar?

Thanks!

Sarah

Hello Sarah
I can recommend the Acting for Screen course at the Midland Arts Centre in Birmingham. It's run by Louise Osbourne who has plenty of industry experience including in Hollywood.
I attended the course where we were given one dialogue scene to learn per week and performed it at the weekly lesson.
I would recommend Acting for Screen to anyone whatever their experience as a chance to discover or to exercise and maintain their acting muscles.
Louise is a kind and generous teacher
Best regards,

That’s really helpful thanks Liam, I’ve also been sent in the direction of The Actors Workshop in Nottingham. I’ll pop them Both an email!

Many thanks

Hi Sarah, there's a few - I'll list all those I can remember (in addition to the above).

Nottingham Actors Workshop is great, and are currently running all their courses online via Zoom, which I've really enjoyed during lockdown.
Thinking Actors often do workshops in Birmingham, but in the meantime, they have some great online classes that are not too expensive. I recommend them also.
Inspire Actors Studio run courses in Birmingham too (I can't personally vouch for them, but I have friends that recommend them. I was all ready to sign up for a free trial class before the world closed down).
Act Up North are more northern, and less Midlands based, but I don't know what their current situation is - they may also have gone online during the current situation. It's a while since I attended their classes, but I enjoyed them when I did attend.
Plus the one recommended by Liam above, which again, I can't personally vouch for, but I know people who've enjoyed it.

Probably worth contacting all of them to see what is currently on offer! Hope that helps.

Hi Rosanne,

That’s all amazing info thank you so much, I’ve been in touch with Tim at the actors workshop. Are you a part of that group yourself? I’ve also contacted the one Liam mentioned, al really helpful!

Thanks

Hi Sarah, yes I'm part of Notts AW. I used to attend a few years ago but stopped going regularly because work commitments got in the way. I've actually signed back up to regular classes since COVID-19 because there are no work commitments now, and I really enjoy the online assignments which keep me sane at the moment. I think I'd be losing it without something creative!
I may see you on zoom if you join (although there are a few groups, so depending which one you are assigned).
X
