Car Insurance for Actors

On my car insurance I have my occupation down as receptionist, which was the closest thing that they had for my temping work. The reason of course is A) that's the main source of my income at the moment and B) when I mention actress, they either won't insure me at all or it's a ridiculous amount that I just can't afford.

I am however worried that should I ever need to claim anything. Not that I am a bad driver or anything ;o) and touch wood I never do have to. But if I do, they could refuse to pay me if they find out i'm also an actress.

Does anyone have any experience with this or any advise on a company that maybe deals with actors specifically?

Does anyone else do the same, and has a different occupation down on their insurance?

Thoughts and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sophia

It might be worth your while contacting CIS (Co-Operative Insurance) too. I'm insured with them as an actress and the premium is quite reasonable (I think!)

Putting on my legal hat I believe one of the reasons anyone in show business faces higher premiums is not just being a higher risk of being in an accident but the greater possibility that you may injure a high earning celebrity passenger. In such a case the loss of earnings claim could be 7 or 8 figures.

So we are all bad drivers and driving around with celebs in our cars! If only the later were true. Give me Robert Downey Jnr as my passenger please! Actually on second thought, I can't afford to. Damn it!

It really is ridiculous.

Anywho I called First Act for a quote twice. They took my name & number down (twice) and said someone would call me back (twice). Alas no one called me back. Seems they also don't want to insure me! LOL

Splatcat - hello! Just a lover of Bond and yep gonna call my insurer and mention the acting. Really hope it doesn't mean i can no longer afford my car or that they won't insure me. Otherwise I am buggered!

Thanks to all who responded! ;)
