Getting Back in the industry

Hi Thomas,
What sort of role are you looking for? Do you see yourself as a technician or a designer? In terms of technical work, it's worth signing up at your local theatre as a casual and getting back into the habit of working. Also apply for everything and highlight your experience in the covering letter. Design work can be harder to get into. I mostly do relights. It really depends what you've done and the evidence you have. Do you have a portfolio of work you can provide?
Even with nearly 20 years continuous experience it can be hard to find work that I want to do. I've been doing a lot of quite boring commercial work recently and I'd really like to do some more interesting stuff, but what you've done recently seems to impact on what you're considered for, even if you have relevant experience in the past.
In short, it's a tough business.
