Dead! After 23 years of working in the 'real' world and giving up almost everything I had to become a professional actor, I cannot even contemplate doing anything else (apart from the temping jobs to keep the roof over my head, although I am pleased to say that these are becoming less and less necessary - hoooorah - long may it last!!).

Erm......this thread isn't probably aimed at people like me!!! Sorry!!

Hey Annie. Nice reply. Jealous you are able to downscale your temp jobs.

I think I would be a lawyer. The courtroom would be my stage and I would use my acting skills to defend guilty criminals.

what?!? Everyone deserves a fair trial and those Porsche payments aren't going to pay themselves.

well, if i hadn't rebelled against my parent's wishes and gone into acting - i would either have been a solicitor or - something else that interests me greatly - a hospital nurse or doctor

Thank you Ditzy Angel!!! Speak to me again in a month and I bet I'm back on full time temping!!! Ha ha!!

We always hope that things will get better, don't we? But the truth is, no matter how successful or unsuccessful we are (or perceive ourselves to be), we cannot afford to sit back and just wait for work to come in, so we keep grinding away with the things we don't necessarily enjoy in order to be able to pursue the things we really do enjoy. The bad times make the good times seem 100% better than they would be if we hadn't had the bad times to compare them with (there's logic there somewhere!!).

So let's all celebrate the fact that we perceive ourselves as Professional Actors, who are just earning a crust whilst 'resting'.

Sorry, kinda hi-jacked the thread again!!

Beccs, why a vet?

I would've liked to have been a professional rugby player (and hopefully played for England!) if it wasn't for acting.

Crumbs! Telepathy or what, since I was thinking of starting this thread only yesterday! (but er didn't.. ;-)

I have a good ear for music & harmony & more of a pop voice really, so I'd have been in a band as a singer I think. I still have a burning ambition to learn the guitar too!

A temp worker in a dead end job, defo.

No, in truth, an archeologist/anthropologist or a human rights lawyer.

But then again, with acting, I may get to have a crack at them as well sometime!

I'd have been a sport journalist or football commentator. Move over Motty I still want your job - part time between acting jobs, of course.

I was so very nearly a History Lecturer, and it was only an inability to ever quite reconcile my desire to be an entertaining writer, with academia's insistence on being dry and pedantic, that put an end to it. I would have been a *fantastic* university teacher/tutor - not a word of a lie.

I would be a grown up.

In a rubbish job....

Or I would be a manager in a hotel or bar or something stressful for little pay....

A bit like now but I would be hating being tied to a job like that for life....

I've been a cleaner, waitress, telesales, kitchen/bathroom designer, ship crew, laundry girl, receptionist, sales assistant, shop manager (for Monsoon. Money was crap but the clothes were fab) security.... just about every dead end job. All this because I cou;ldn't take the focus off my passion (performing....obviously).
I always thought that I might waste my life if I trained to be what I wanted to be when I was a kid which an air traffick controler in the RAF. Phew.. got there in the end.

A writer...or if I'd been born on the other side of the pond, an FBI agent! I've always thought that would be so cool...hmm, methinks I should write a fabulously successful series of books about a female FBI agent...and then cast myself as said star!
