Splat, our posts crossed. Don't think I can reply in a line (I never can), but I'll keep it short:

1. You can be listed on IMDB if the production company concerned has filled in the forms needed to get the details posted - as you are a filmaker yourself, Mr. Le Cat, if you can prove to them that the films you have made had broadcasts beyond 'private screenings', you can add in your own films as well...

2. If you were in a film that is listed, but your name does not appear on the Cast List, you can ask them to update it, and add your name.

3. If you pay for IMDB Resume, you get to hold a CV with IMDB - this includes headshot and additional info, and will be linked to from any listing you appear in - it is cheaper than paying for:

4. IMDB Pro - which is a name given to the subscription that allows you to access all aspect of IMDB - you can check your 'bankability rating', read industry insider information etc. etc. Very good if you are serious about taking movies seriously, also expensive though...

Hayley - you can add the episdoe yourself. You just go to the bottom of the profile page and click edit then there is a section which relates to specific episodes. I did this many years ago for a single episode I appeared in. My IMDb is http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2358356/ to see how it appears. It will thgen be verified (by IMDb checking the episode was broadcast and your name appears int he credits) and then be added. It looks complicated but it really isn't, just long winded!

Splat, the criteria for a project is not that it is exists but that it is eligible to appear on IMDB - that is what they will tell you time and again. Just because something has been produced doesn't make it eligible. It has to have been broadcast (and not just to your friends and family)!! It could be low or high budget but they have to have proof of it being seen "publicly"!!

IMDb holds a wealth of info which is really useful for those behind the camera as well as in front of it and I believe it is worth having.

Resume is useful because it shows other work you have done that doesn't meet the eligibility criteria - such as presenting, modelling, commercials, non-broadcast productions etc.

In the US you have to have a profile to be taken seriously and your ranking is incredibly important (takes thousands of individual UNIQUE hits on your profile to affect your ranking and so shows your popularity and bankability) and it is the "bible" for the media sector worldwide and the definitive accessible Internet Movie Database!!!

Good luck with the listing Hayley, let us know if you get it sorted

That's good to know Sasha - I wasn't aware that you can add in episodes, too - I guess the important point is that there is some form of original listing in place that can be updated, however.

And a good point about the resume - there is plenty of broadcast standard filmed material that you may have featured in that will never be listed on IMDB because it is not 'formally' credited work (and nor, I suppose, can the pieces be considered 'movies') - things like commercials and music videos...

IMDB will, indeed, check all data that is sent to them, which is one reason why the process of updating can take so long, but also why IMDB is considered such an accurate resource for defining an actors' screen credits...

Anything that can prove to have had public showings (including festival circuit, terrestrial or satellite television, cinema distribution etc. etc.) or been produced for the distribution market (I think this includes the 'straight to DVD market' provided the DVD is backed by a standard distributor) can be listed. I'm not sure whether movies that are made to high standards for Internet consumption and download (as opposed to virals, which are commercial) can be listed - although this may be an area that IMDB will have to consider more seriously in the near future. Naturally, this doesn't include student films, pieces that were shot for Youtube consumption, 'private' projects etc.

The real reason your IMDB ranking moves up and down is due to financial gain from films connected to your profile. This includes the bankabliity of actors included on those films, so your rating will also be affected by their success, as well as things like news stories. This in turn with hits, as Sasha says. It's a very complicated system.
