To quit or not to quit...

I've been seriously considering for the last few weeks getting a 'proper job' because the acting work seems to be non existent at the moment and quite frankly I'm fed up! I'm sick and tired of working temp jobs for a rubbish wage and applying for castings on here which don't even get viewed. I just feel as I'm plodding along at the moment and aren't getting anywhere near where I want to be but don't know what to do about it. Anybody else feeling fed or up is it just me? There's no job I'd rather do but as the weeks go on it seems more and more unlikely that I'm ever going to get that 'break' which will make it all seem worth while. ho hum...

I think that is typical also of life in general; it is those precious moments we have; that makes life so absolutely wonderful...

I think I have such a moment coming my way soon!!!

I think Bull you have to trust your instincts but consider the pros and cons. I know how you feel I am a struggling actor at the moment and am out of work have accepted a job at a Amateur theatre company which is great but it doesn't pay but I love the work so much. One thing you maybe interested in is perhaps being behind the scenes i.e. runner, assistant, possible work experience on sets or tv shows cause you never know who you might meet you may get freindly with someone in casting who can't find their ideal actress and then you pop up and they're exactly what you're looking for. There is more than one avenue in this industry it's just difficult to get into the inner circle and that's what we are all trying to achieve. But give it serious thought first before you make big decisions.
All the best.

Just one thing Sara...If you quit the business then your NEED to act isn't strong enough. Apologies for being harsh, but we've all got to take the knocks and set backs and lack of security and the rejection and the heartache that comes with this profession. And the reason why we put up with all of it is because we CANNOT IMAGINE DOING ANYTHING ELSE WITH OUR LIVES. Barbra Streisand once said that someone asked her "Should I be an actor?" and her reply was "If you have to ask that question, then the answer is NO." I can totally appreciate your point of view as a 30 year old who's been at it professionally since I was 12. But in all that time I have NEVER EVER considered quitting. And never will.
Best of luck with whatever you decide, and only you will know what's best for you.
