What does it take to get a job from Mandy!?

I apply for several daily, I have good experience and a full CV. Some of them I feel could suit me to a tee (I know competition is fierce and I'm not naive) but I get barely any interest. Some applications don't even. get viewed even though I may have applied pretty quick off the mark. I have never had one paid job from here in ages - though I get paid work elsewhere - obviously everything is quieter than normal generally atm. Is there a trick to it or something fundamental I am doing wrong? Feel free to peep at my profile to see if I am coming across like a nob or something. But I had a subscription a while ago and in one year I did one paid job - a testimonial (which was really fun btw!) so I cancelled my subscription and only recently renewed it (earlier this year) but I feel like I must be doing something wrong.Anyone else have this?

I agree Terri-Ann, the fees are ever in a downward trajectory. I do leave feedback but I doubt very much if employers - and I use the word in politeness - ever read or even get the opportunity to read them. I think it's just there to make people feel better by stating their feelings and as if they're being listened to.

I don't blame you Terri Ann, a lot of these jobs are advertised across other sites also so pay is poor and a lot of competition. I shan't be renewing this time. Keep warm and safe. Julia

Sorry you had those experiences Terri-Ann, are you finding better results on any other sites? Or you just feel the Calibre of employers on here are poor?

HIYA EVERYONE, I did not expect replies and I am just about to be off here as membership is ended, but TONY - yes I think this site attracts parties whom think they will get actors for cheap. I suppose there is a difference between a low budget film where the makers have little money but there is a lot of production companies on here and advertising agencies whom have a budget in particular advertising - there seem to be a notion if it is an online project they do not have to pay equity professional rates but also I think if actors take that work it becomes a self for filling prophecy. AGAIN, if someone is taking low paid shorts etc to build up a reel or cv that is up to them but the commercial world in my opinion is here, being exploitative. When I am approached to work for free/stupid amounts of money -I direct the person to the EQUITY website to indicate the required amount of professional pay. This mostly goes down like cold sick and even has incensed some people - why? On the whole they at whatever company are on a professional salary -I also use the hastag #proffesionnotahobby Also and I am sorry to say this and this is my experience ( not saying it is across the board) the word 'charity' is used to coax actors to work for free /low budget. Of course if an actor wants to work for free for charity that is brilliant and their choice but there has been a few approach to me that were manipulative. In particular when this was through a ad agency whom are all being paid properly from the charity's budget. Also a big red flag is for me - oh we approached you here via MANDY, as we did not want to go through your agent - WHY? I have an agent as a professional to negotiate contracts!1 Tony I am not on other sites except spotlight and obviously my agent but I do try to keep abreast of whats happening via CDs I have a relationship with and the up and coming assistants.Any way love an luck to you and hopefully we will work together one day. TX

I feel the same and I am just going to clarify what everyone else has said, 2021 will definitely be my last year on Mandy, I have been a member since 2006. However, Don't forget that its not only Theatre not working, its event's, cruise ships, holiday parks, hotel shows, exhibitions, Theatre in Education and theme parks. That's a LOT of unemployed artists. Plus when companies post on Mandy, quite often they also put the same casting on other sites such as Star Now too. We'll get through it, things are already starting to look up, especially with the panto castings coming through at the moment.

I hear you Kerri, especially if like you said you fit the bill to a 'tee' and your profile isn't even viewed!
I also feel the same way about these "Free" offers to meet CD's etc. I have never been successful despite applying for every one for years, and yet some members tell me they are successful for consecutive ones. Mayne Mandy needs to check their database and if you are successful to get one, then you can't apply for another for at least 6 months or so...

I didn't renew my sub this year. Lack of suitable jobs and haven't really had a job through Mandy since the CCP days.

Hi. Tell me, is there any truth in something I was told some years ago. That The Spotlight, have a grading system for Agents, A/B and C grades. Where the "A" agencies get the first look at the offers for their "A" lister Names, followed by "B" who get the next look in and so on ? I was told this after I asked a similar question to the ones asked on here.."Why am I not getting Spotlight work"? Just makes me think.....

Yes Gerry, your right the CD's decide who see's what and we all have to pay the same fee.

I have not renewed mine after having no job offers for over 2 years. Its certainly harder if you are over 60 and live some distance from London where most of the work is, so many are not financially viable. Depending on timing it costs about £100 to travel.

I stopped subscribing for same reason. And the jobs posted nowadays were £70-£100.

Even jobs through Extras Agencies pay £100 +.

I originally joined when it was Casting Call Pro and I needed material for a showreel.

I have not renewed this year. I think I always just about broke even - I did have a £650 job a few years back, but that was TV ad which should have paid much more.

Mandy costs almost as much as Spotlight, which is ridiculous considering the quality of work available on the two platforms.

Hi, I was just wondering how everybody is doing on here? Have things picked up in the last few months work wise for you all, I really hope so!
I have to say I have become a little despondent lately as there seem to be so few suitable jobs on here and so many people vying for the same work. I’d be delusional if I thought that I would be considered for every job I apply for but what I find really frustrating is when you apply for something and you’re not even viewed, and this is happening on a regular basis to a lot of us, despite applying promptly when jobs are advertised. I mean really what is the point of it all! You might as well be putting up an ad for your services in a newsagents window!

Not even getting your tape viewed is a real downer. I'm staring at the Application Page and some are not even 'viewed'. It is disappointing. I am applying for about 5 jobs a week and have not got anything from Mandy for months. Fortunately I have work from other long standing sources so I'm not idle!
