URGENT: Self Tape Upload Issues

Rachel Levy
Actor

I have hit a problem, and apologies if this has been answered already in the forum, I couldn't find anything here which resolved it myself! My issue is, I am trying to upload a selftape to apply for a job, but the file size is over 200mb so it has not been accepted (I think the size is the issue, rather than file type as it is a standard mp4). I then tried to give the production a link to where I have posted the video on my YouTube channel in the cover letter, but found that unless I upload a video to the application, I am unable to send the application. How can I apply for the job? I would appreciate any help to overcome this, or even just advice on the best way to contact the production to explain the problem and direct them to my YouTube page.
Many thanks in advance, Rachel Levy

Take a really tiny minuscule short video of anything - a blank wall, a desk. Use the Mandy software if you can but phone and upload if you can't. Explain this in the covering letter and direct the production company to the You Tube clip.

I've taken a video of nothing when the client has asked for either a self tape or showreel clips and they don't realise the system won't then allow you to apply without uploading something.

Hi Rachel,

there is a free file size reducing tool called Handbrake (which is just really useful for self tape files in general). You take your file and put it through the tool and it reduces it down to a size that Mandy will successfully upload. Quality isn't obviously impaired either - unless you reduce it to something ridiculously low. Remember to save your 'new' file.

Good luck!

James

Just send them a https://wetransfer.com link. Fast, easy, and pretty much an 'industry standard'.

I'm very grateful to everyone who took the time to reply, thanks very much for your help and suggestions. I managed to reduce it with something like what you describe, James.
