This is a short scene I've created to try and get a part in the new Star Wars Trilogy:

Alternatively, I hope you'll join me in supporting the Unicef 'Force For Change' campaign for the possibility to appear in Episode VII:

Joe I admire your determination because I love it when an actor is willing to go all out to show their passion. The thing is I remember those Star Wars open auditions and how instantly they made a decision based on look and very little else. I suspect that there are A LOT of actors out there who will be be looking to do the same thing most of which will be deleted in a heartbeat because of how busy (I won't say the CD's name because I remember what happened the last time someone released it online and sparked a rediculous amount of attempts to contact her for a role) they are.

I think if you want a role on SW, Doctor Who or one of these huge cult classics that everyone will be trying to apply to, you're best bet is to let them come to you. Make sure your showreel and headshots show the full amount of accessibility and range your capable of on Spotlight and CCP. That way when they see you they'll build a character based on what you can do rather than on the characteristics you want them to see.

I do apologise if I come across as a huge dampener but I very recently learned this lesson myself.

Hi Adam, I understand the point you're making because there are so many people wanting a part in these films but I also think you need to be proactive.
A good headshot and showreel is essential of course, but in this day and age there are so many ways you can get your work seen either by tweeting a link to people involved in these shows/films (which I've done) or just having it out there on youtube.
There are several instances of actors landing parts after sending a tailor made clip to casting agents or Directors.
Yes it's a long shot and the chances are extremely slim but I'd rather be actively creating rather than waiting.

Fair enough mate. In that case if you are going to do it then can I recommend that rather than trying to create a character you try to create as much expandability with different emotions and looks as possible (which given the nature of the Star Wars universe is absolutely never ending) rather than a character video. I see you've got a lot of experience and that's awesome because it means you know how to take your skills in any direction which gives you a bigger chance in the Venn Diagram of "What You Can Do?" & "What characteristics they can use?".

I really do hope I'm not coming across as stand offish because if it were me I'd kill for a chance to go for a shot like that (Star Wars, Doctor Who were my biggest legacies growing up). It's just knowing that those 2 shows come down to one person, it feels like you only get one shot to make an impression and you want to make it count. :) Best of luck Joe.

That's ok mate, it's hard to gauge intention with text and easy to see something that isn't intended.
I could have gone in a variety of ways with this video but chose the one I eventually went for.
Like I say it's a long shot but worth a go and my showreel and multiple clips on my CCP page shows some of my range of variety.
As for the casting in Doctor Who and Star Wars, all casting comes down to one person really doesn't it?
You can be cast or not for so many reasons and yes you only get one shot to make a first impression you also have to let them know you exist!
How many castings for Star Wars or Doctor Who have you seen on CCP or Spotlight?
Getting to even see the casting directors for these projects depends on how good an agent you have, it seems to me and I want to do all I can to hopefully get to see them at some point.
I can't wait for the phone to ring, I want to engage in the process and hopefully persistence will pay off!
Cheers Adam, best of luck to you too!

You have the right attitude Joe but I'd imagine you and majority of actors and Non actors would like to be in Star wars.
I went to open auditions and submitted a video audition, I heard nothing.
Casting is done in episode 7 but you know there is always the likely hood of getting extra work on episode 7, that I think would be a good experience even just for being a fan of the films but as far as speaking roles I would imagine most of us are going to get filtered out of the system, those of us that aren't with big agents.
If I saw a walk on role appear through spotlight I would surely be submitting but then along with god knows how many.
There is no harm in creating your own work if only just to keep your creative juices flowing but Star wars has a massive Fan film community so its nothing unique.
Good luck with the Unicef Campaign, I was thinking of entering too.

As the saying goes: If you're not creating, you're waiting.
Being that they are making a new trilogy as well as spinoff's, so you never know. Long shot, yes, but a long shot is better than no shot.
Cheers Oliver, do give the Unicef campaign a go!
