Being turned down

Rachel Dobell
Actor, Singer

Just an irritation but I do wonder sometimes, when told by the prospective employer that they have decided to go in another direction, if they have decided to head off to the other side of the planet. Do they mean that they have chosen someone else? Why not put it that simply? It is a bit like being thanked for 'reaching out' when you have asked a question.

Yeah pretty much. They're just trying to soften the blow I suppose. But I agree, then again some people don't hear anything. There's no great way of delivering bad news.

One of my pet peeves is the phrase 'thanks for reaching out'. I am not reaching out. I am not drowning, I am not in danger, I am not trying to grasp your hand or any other physical object. I have merely asked a question which I hope you are qualified to answer.
And yes, going in another direction - what the heck does that mean really? You've changed the remit? You've changed the characteristics/nature/personality of the role I was going for? Is that character now older/younger/slimmer/fatter etc? Have you changed direction so much that I am totally unsuitable for the role I applied for? Or, did my face, delivery or general appearance not match with that of your 'vision'. Be honest.
There we go, rant over :-)

With acting, I am the least experienced of you all I think, I am thinking like in sales, today the company had to let me go as I was not making enough sales which is fair enough. I feel a bit gutted but it is part of the learning process for me and to keep pushing and face rejection and eventually I will be so used to it. I will hopeully be increasing my care work hours in the mean time but not sure if I will have the flexiblity to take on acting opportuinites. Let's see.
Hopefully it goes well.

I wish you all success though for future opportunities.
