Dystopia TV series

Hi guys,

Was curious to see if anyone else auditioned for the Dystopian TV Series due to be filmed in New York? I was sent an email by the producer complimenting my self- tape audition, but suggested my suitability for other roles for the following episode, once the crowd funding has been completed; only now they have disabled their email address and contact on CCP. Should I be worried?

Hannan...the fact that this production company expects to fund a TV series from crowdfunding, does concern me as to whether the series would ever happen. Such a mode of funding is not reliable on a large scale...and would depend on creating enough excitement, among a large number of people, to get it to happen. That isn't particularly easy.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. It does look like their crowdfunding hopes, were met with a bit of market reality...hence their disabled contact details. Just get out there and apply for other things, rather than hoping for too much from this one "opportunity". Best of luck, Hannan.

Hannah, I also auditioned and they said exactly the same to me. I haven't had any replied since. I'm not sure I will hear from them again, ah well, life goes on and I've almost forgotten about it now. Just focus on other work and try to forget about it I guess.

Good luck.

Hi, yes I had the same experience in addition to some suspect contact from them suggesting "investing in a role" on their crowd funding page which cost x amount of thousands. I didn't reply to the email as I realised that there was somethinks suspect going on. In addition to that I did some research and none of the actors or director had any such credit on their IMDB. Normally when you go into even pre-production your IMDB is updated. I don't think it ever was going to happen so I wouldn't worry too much. Having said that, CCP really should monitor who they permit to post castings on this site as there have been numerous suspect cases on here over the past few years.

I hope that helps :)

Best wishes

Tia

Tia,
Well, I've learnt something there. I should have checked IMDB to confirm the 'pre-production' status first. Of which I have one on there right now on my IMDB for a new Brit Feature for next year. Sometimes takes another to point out the simple things in life!
Thank you Tia.

Very helpful guys and this certainly won't stop me moving forward- just irritates me greatly, particularly with the time and effort spent doing the self- tape auditions. This industry is tough enough and has made me sceptical in regards to applying for crowd- funded projects (although I have recently auditioned for another) as a means to get actors to audition and promote their work through social media with the hope they will be offered a role.
Anyway rant over and thanks again guys. Best wishes to all!

I had an email from this company telling me I got through to the second round of auditions... I never auditioned in the first place! If only every job went that way...

No way! Now I am wishing they said that to me then I wouldn't feel like I have wasted my time putting together my self-tape audition. Well New York I guess I won't be seeing you anytime soon. Eye opener indeed!

Yep I had the same story....an email to say that I was 'considered very hard' for the role, but in the end didn't quite match what the director had in mind, but may well be offered another role once the crowd funding ends....I would be interested to know whether the actress cast as 'nurse' ever travelled to New York?! I'm not entirely sure the whole thing was a scam, they weren't funding the entire project from the crowd funding, and did (seem to) cast an actress from the audition tapes (announcement made shortly after the campaign ended). I am sure however, that they hoped to boost their funds by getting enthusiastic and perhaps naïve 'up and coming' artists excited about the project in the hope that they would pay the $$$$$ to finally be spotted!!
Never mind guys! On to the next!! :P

Interesting that more actors are coming on with the same story. My email from them also said that some supporting or background roles could be 'bought' through crowd funding. I am wondering if it was a 'carrot' to make us fund the project by buying a role. Look at it this way doing the self-tape has added another character type to ones portfolio. I found it fun to self-tape and the temporary excitement at the chance of actually going there to work on it was worth it. Keep smiling folks there's something else just around the corner.

I had the same experience with the nurse role and also know two others that have had the same. I've also been warned by someone else to be careful of the names linked to production - not going to specify - but they have a history of booking people and filming the films but then not paying at the end. It's hard to tell what is real about it because there are some big actor names attached to it but we certainly all got a round robin reply. But in the same breath I was advised not to buy 'a role' by them so it is so elaborate just to get publicity? Very confusing but again I do agree CCP should be made aware. I wonder if others have paid for roles if they were contacted on other sites?
