Applied for a job a couple of weeks ago, and was pleased to see that the employer viewed my application quickly, looked at my profile, etc.
They viewed my application again the next day, and again every couple of days for the last week or so, occasionally looking at my showreel, voice clips, etc a few times as well. I even got quite optimistic about getting an audition out of it... until today when I got the dreaded "Application not taken forward"!
Rejection is of course part of the business, but that was a bit more tortuous than usual.
So I thought I'd ask about your worst/best?/most bizarre rejection scenarios...
With me it’s different I apply for a role and I never get the role I applied for. I have never applied for a role and was given it I always get a different role. Ive been a member of this site since 2010 and it’s always the same I apply for a role and they contact me and say can you play this role instead.
This is going back a bit, but does anyone remember the days when you used to post in your application along with a hard backed SAE, so they could post back your 10x8 headshot should they decide not to see you.
Then at the audition you're handed back your SAE and headshot there and then, to save themselves the bother of posting it back to you. It happened to me twice. Totally humiliating. You don't forget, and such cream-faced, unctious slime-balls they were too, on both occasions. Ha!
I haven’t had this experience with auditions, I have had it with when applying for agents, I had to send my headshot, CV and a Cover Letter and also send a stamped envelope so they could send it back to me, it cost me a fortune, it was horrible going to the post office every time and sending to many agents Plus stamped envelope so they could send my stuff back.
With me, Agents were usually OK, they knew headshots were expensive, most of them would post them back if not interested. It's so much more convenient these days. Thank God!
Yes I’m glad it’s paperless now that’s really helps, the things that I’m struggling with is that Mandy is sending me jobs for Drama Teacher or store manager the other day there was a job for office worker, it’s like come on this is not the job centre this is a actor job site.
One jolly feature. Part was related to legal procedure, so, having a background in that area, was recommended by someone who'd worked with me before. Cast with expressions of deep joy. To weeks later, after prompting, through comes the contract, and it's garbage. Two clauses ( about money) literally contradict one another, there are no less than five different clauses about how I can be sacked, and one seems to mean that if I am injured onset I agree not to sue. My agent is very insurance savvy, so I mention it.
aucune reponse.
Days afterwards, 'final' script arrives. Character has two additional scenes, but no mention of shooting schedule. Ask for clarification, and start learning. Two days later ( eve of first shoot date) contact to ask for call sheet, and response to queries.
24 mins later someone I follow on twitter is exulting about being cast in the part, and cramming the lines overnight: how exciting!. Silence from producers.
No call sheet arrived, so I awarded myself a lie-in.. Don't know to this day what came of it (or them).
