Piehole

Hi

Anyone any experience of Piehole? I signed up over a month ago (£350 for a year) and have been completely underwhelmed by the lack of hits and demo listens.

Hi Nigel

I'm unfortunately having the same experience, I suppose it is early days still but at the moment I'm less than impressed.

Hi Adam

I get the feeling we've been sold a pup. Seems they just provide an online platform which they then expect you to promote yourself. I do all that already with my own site - pointless doing it for Piehole too. They don't even promote the site on google - it's way down the list when you search 'voiceovers.'

Was hoping it would have its own natural footfall that would generate more demo listens. All I seem to get is the odd absurd job enquiry with no specifics and no budget.

Thanks for this- was just about to sign up. May think again.

I wouldn't bother Lee, I've just been invited to apply for a job where the client needs a native northern Irish voice actor (which I'm not), with ISDN (which I don't have), as with all of the other jobs that have come up there is no budget or deadline details. Keep hold of your money m8, I wish I had.

Still, at least you're not inundated with jobs for "Saudi English, Kurmanji and Tagalog speakers

; o )

I was thinking of this too but was put off not just because of the extortionate fee but because they kept marketing at me, phoning me asking if i was going to join...made me suspicious cos they sell themselves as something a bit exclusive and difficult to join. Anyway, as Lee says, thanks guys, think i will avoid!

I got suckered in by their backstory (the founders pitched the idea on Ireland's Dragon's Den), the smart presentation of the site and the fact that they appeared to generate an impressive amount of footfall.

However in joining all I've done is create another online presence to add to my own website, my agent's and voices pro - shelling out £350 for the privilege.

I have complained to them about the lack of response but all they do is chuck the problem back at you - it's down to your lack of blogging, your photo or profile not being sexy enough etc etc.

Seriously, if anyone's considering joining, think twice.

If they were as pro-active in getting work as they are in recruiting new voices you'd all be quids in, they've called me relentlessly for months, can't fault the sales guys work ethic

Hi,

I've been a member of Piehole for a couple of years now and have made many times back the cost of signing up. There are on and off months, so don't be put off straightaway.

Thanks,

Adam

I joined when they first started, as one of the first voices they had. I did really well - a channel 5 piece, on-going work for Yamaha (still going now, 3 years later) and a few other bits.
But they just kept letting people join, to the point they have so many people on there! Basically, unless you pay the top whack (I believe in the region of £1000) you simply won't be found on there by employers.
I stayed for a second year and got one job.

They worked well as a small company, but as a site inundated with members, your £350 is merely going to help market those shelling out the grand.

I just had a phone call from them. Its not easy after filling in your profile details to get to the membership plans stage so Nate sent me a link.

Basic listing is £200
Premium listing is £400

For just a listings site that seems very steep

Actually the top rate is £1000 per year. That's the only package that gets you a featured profile. But included in that is a load of studio kit you've probably already got.

Yes there is the £1000 option but only 4 of those are offered per year apparently so I didn't count it...although yes you probably have a pop shield, a USB cable and business cards anyway :)

Piehole didn't work at all for me either.

Suggest putting the money towards better gear and acoustic treatment instead!

I have to pay them their dues, just got a cartoon series from an audition on their site which has more than paid for my membership. Maybe it does just take time.

Have now officially cancelled my Bodalgo after 6 months of no jobs through them.
I've had great results from Voice123 and of course the wonderful Voices Pro.
As stated before I am a bit dubious about Piehole. Wondering who else to sign up with. What about voiceovers.co.uk? Anyone else with them?

Actually- I have to say I am sorry you have had these experiences as I have been on there a year and I have certainly made my money back and more so it has worked out for me just to give another side..for me voices pro and Piehole have been the best sources of work.
